Frequently
Asked Questions (Please email info@niagaraceltic.com with any other questions)
What is the Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival?
Who runs it?
In Autumn of 2001 the Niagara Celtic Heritage Society created the
Niagara Celtic Heritage Festival & Highland Games, the ultimate
celebration of the local area and celtic heritage. This two day
event draws about 8,000 guests and hundreds of participants. Now
in its 10th year, all are invited to become a part of the fun and
festivities. No matter who you are, one weekend every September
become Celtic and celebrate with us!
The
Niagara Celtic Heritage Society was created in early 2001 by Philip
& Beth Banks as a way to celebrate and preserve Celtic history
while also celebrating the history and heritage of Historic Olcott
Beach, New York. It is an incorporated organization comprised of
an executive board, festival chairs and countless volunteers.
How
do I find out about lodging?
Visit www.olcott-newfane.com
for a list of local hotels, motels and B&B's.
Can
I come in costume?
Absolutely! We encourage all guests to come in costume. If you want
to dress up but have no outifts, no worries: vendors at our Marketplace
will be stocked with everything from kilts to chain maile, head
garland to cloaks. Want to show off your Celtic pride but not
ready to be decked out in full costume? You'll find a wonderful
assortment of shirts, hats and more for sale at the Marketplace
celebrating everything Irish, Scottish, Welsh and more. Looking
for an outfit before you arrive? Visit Forest
Creek Renaissance
Shoppe.
Is
there shade on the festival grounds?
The festival is held at Krull Park in Historic Olcott Beach, New
York. There are countless trees overhead for shelter, along with
a large pavilion (maintained by the local Lion's Club). During the
festival, many tents are also brought in to help act as cover for
any type of weather.
Other
than the Food Court, where else in Olcott can I eat?
There are a few restaurants located at Olcott Beach, including The
Lighthouse Grill-N-Spirits, The Harbor Resort, Mariner's
Landing, and shops at The Olcott Boardwalk. Plus, leaving
the grounds for a short while is easy: keep your wristband on when
you exit the festival, and on your return entrance you can reenter
immediately!
Are
there"Facilities"?
Several areas will be set up with portable sanitary facilities and
hand washing areas. There is also a permanent building on the park
grounds inside the festival that will be open (both men's and women's
washrooms).
Do
you offer presale tickets for the festival? What about group ticket
sales?
We currently do not offer presale tickets for the festival. Group
Rates may be available; contact Phil Banks (716-778-5730) for details.
What
if I need cash?
Many vendors (and the front entrance) are not set up to handle anything
other than cash and occasionally checks over the weekend. We are
working on having ATM's available on the grounds, but there is no
guarantee they will be available. The local ATMs tend to run out
of cash quickly too, so make sure to bring more than just plastic
with you!
Where
do I park? What is the cost?
Once you reach the grounds you will find dozens of parking staff
to help direct you to the best and closest possible parking spot
based on your arrival time each day. The cost of all parking is
FREE, no matter the length of your stay.
Is
there Handicapped Accessibility?
There is a special parking area along the entrance (simply ask the
parking staff for directions once you reach the grounds). The festival
has accessible facilities and large paths for wheelchairs.
Will
there be activites for kids?
Yes, it is a wonderful event for children of all ages. There are
special performances for kids, souvenirs, kid-friendly food, mini
highland games, and a huge area filled with countless activities.
The paths throughout the park are suitable for strollers. Click
here for more info.
What
is the meaning of the dragonfly? I've seen them every year at the
festival, and on this website.
The
dragonfly was chosen as our mascot, as it's meanings include
success, victory, happiness, strength, courage and everlasting
life. We hope these symbolize some of the aspects of the society
as we continue to become established in the WNY area. Its
use is strictly for the Niagara Celtic Heritage Society (The
Heritage Festival has its own logos).
